What is shockwave therapy?
The shockwave device enables to generate pulses that let tissue to be penetrated by the shock wave with healing properties. Using a properly selected wave transmitter, the physiotherapist can perform trigger point therapy (10-mm transmitter), larger joints (15-mm transmitter), stimulate muscles (20-mm transmitter), or perform treatments to reduce cellulite (35-mm transmitter). The shockwave propagates in the tissues radially, enabling treatment of both surface-located diseases and pathological processes located in deeper tissues (15-mm titanium transmitter). During the treatment, the device’s gun-shaped applicator transmits an average of 4,000 shokes, depending on the type of injury.
The use of the shockwave allows stimulation of selected areas of the body, as well as in the case of devices generating a compressor pressure above 3.5 bar, treatment of disease entities in which a chronic calcification process occurs. An example of a degenerative change in which the shockwave treatment brings excellent results is the so-called “calcaneal spur”. The shockwave therapy allows for the treatment of chronic pain and discomfort connected with degeneration and inflammation of the tendons, muscles, bones, joint capsules and ligaments. Its special properties are used to treat athletes’ injuries. The shockwave, by hiperstimulation of nerve endings and cell membranes, blocks pain signals, which allows to completely eliminate pain. The positive effects of therapy allow to stop taking painkillers, and often avoid having to undergo surgery.
The effectiveness of shockwave therapy has been clinically confirmed. Therapeutic treatments related to the penetration of tissues by the shockwave bring benefits in the form of:
better tissue blood supply – increased microcirculation and metabolism
reduced muscle tone – relaxing effect
anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect – permanent therapeutic effect
tissue regeneration – scar reduction, increased collagen production
disintegration of calcifications – non-invasive treatment of degenerative diseases
Usually 3-4 treatments carried out at an interval of one week allow to achieve the desired effect of therapy. Importantly, the therapeutic results are long-lasting, and the treatment itself does not require anaesthesia.
Shockwave therapy brings satisfying results in the treatment of the following diseases:
Plantar fasciitis
Inflammation of the lateral epicondyle of the humeral – tennis / golfer’s elbow
Painful shoulder syndrome
Patellar tendonitis – jumper’s knee
Inflammation and achilles tendon pain
Calcaneal spur (lower and upper)
Anterior tibial syndrome
Overload and degenerative changes
Muscle tension, trigger points
Trochanteric bursitis
Tendinopathies and rotator cuff injury – tendon lesions
Chronic enthesopathies
Iliotibial band syndrome
Treatments using the positive effect of a shockwave on the musculoskeletal system are currently one of the most popular forms of therapy used in physiotherapy centers. The first shockwave therapy devices had a different construction and produced a focused wave. Kidney stones were broken with them. Effective interaction of these devices has also been observed in the field of physical therapy.
The focused wave is characterized by the high local energy. The change in the method of wave generation led to the creation of a device for radial shockwave therapy (RSWT), which turned out to be much less invasive, and at the same time effective in physical therapy. To ensure proper wave transmission from the transmitter to the body, it is necessary to use a coupling medium. It is usually a gel. Currently manufactured devices are often eqipped with built-in encyclopedia of treatment programs. The physiotherapist selects the most appropriate treatment parameters or chooses one of the predefined treatment programs created to achieve the best possible therapy results.
Impactis M+ shockwave – benefits for the patient
Greater treatment comfort
During shockwave therapy, impulses are generated whose frequency may affect the patient’s comfort during the treatment. Sensitive people may experience discomfort during treatments especially in the case of low-frequency shocks. The pulse frequency range from 1 to 25 Hz used in Impactis M+ allows to increase patient comfort without losing the therapeutic properties of the treatment.
Higher effectiveness of treatments
The use of devices that generate a compressor pressure of a maximum value of 3 bar has a stimulating effect, however, it does not allow to achieve the complete treatment effects. To enable effective therapy of various injuries and to eliminate their causes, Impactis M+ generates a pressure of up to 5 bar. Thanks to this, the device ensures comprehensive therapy, even in the case of chronic calcification processes.
Quick therapy without side effects
The application of physical therapy treatments using shockwaves often consents to avoid surgical intervention. Shockwave therapy is a completely safe, but extremely effective treatment used in orthopaedics, rehabilitation, sports and aesthetic medicine. The therapeutic session lasts about 10 minutes.
Benefits for the physiotherapist
In physiotherapy centers or mobile
The Impactis M+ has a number of therapeutic applications, and its relatively light weight makes the device easy to transport. Thanks to the dedicated PRO Bag that holds both Impactis M+ unit and all its accessories, the shockwave therapy device allows for comfortable procedures outside the physiotherapy center.
The Impactis M+ standard equipment includes three stainless steel transmitters:
10 mm – for trigger points therapy
15 mm – for the treatment of larger joints
20 mm – for muscle stimulation
In addition, Impactis M+ is equipped with a 15-mm titanium transmitter, which is characterized by a significantly higher energy transfer. Its therapeutic properties have been tested in a specialized laboratory in Germany. The manufacturer guarantees a ballistic system lifetime of 2 million shocks.
Program and manual mode
Thanks to the built-in encyclopedia describing the methodology of performing individual procedures, displayed on a large, colorful screen, the Impactis M + shockwave therapy device operation is convenient and simple. Treatment programs can be selected using the list of 44 carefully developed disease entities, or through the anatomical mode, in which we choose the place on the body for therapy. Experienced physiotherapists can choose the operation by free access to all device parameters in manual mode.
Innovative solutions
Impactis M + is equipped with a 7-inch color display with a touch screen. The device has a well developed user interface based on many years of experience. The front of the shockwave applicator has been designed in a way that increases the comfort of work with the device, and the shock spring absorber system allows for a significant reduction in vibrations during shock wave emission. Such a solution makes the product safe for the physiotherapist.
Another convenience for the user is an innovative solution called the interval emission mode. It involves switching from single pulse mode to continuous emission mode by pressing the applicator button. Such a procedure is particularly convenient for trigger point therapy. Pulse emission mode allows you to find the place of a trigger point, while continuous mode is dedicated for performing the exact therapy.
The treatment with the help of Impactis M+ allows to achieve excellent results, and an optional transmitter dedicated for aesthetic medicine expands the range of treatments that a specialist physiotherapy center may offer to its patients.
Impactis M+ shockwave
The Impactis M + shockwave therapy device enables effective treatment of chronic pain associated with chronic inflammation and degeneration of tendons, joint capsules, ligaments muscles and bones. It is also a great support in the therapy of trigger points, i.e. particularly sensitive places characterized by increased tension, which can generate radiating pain.
